Caleb Chapman on JodyJazz Mouthpieces
"A world-class big band is impossible without a sax section that truly blends. Jody Jazz mouthpieces give the Crescent Super Band the consistency, precision, and tone necessary across all our saxes for that to happen.
"
-Caleb Chapman, Crescent Super Band Director About Caleb Chapman's Crescent Super Band
![]() Putting their own exciting spin on the American Songbook, Caleb Chapman’s award-winning Crescent Super Band has frequently been hailed as the best professional big band in the world to be comprised entirely of young musicians. Their electrifying performances have been featured at many of the world’s most prominent jazz festivals, including North Sea (the Netherlands), Montreux (Switzerland), Tuscany (Italy), Vienne (France), and Umbria (Italy). The band also has a strong national presence with recent festival performances in Chicago, Boston, New York, Colorado, and their home state of Utah. In 2011 DownBeat Magazine again recognized the Crescent Super Band with their coveted "Downbeat Award", marking the band as the best youth big band in the country (they also awarded the band this honor in 2007 and 2010). The band has also won six “Best of State” awards for Utah and the prestigious BOSS Award identifying the band as the top organization in Arts and Entertainment in Utah, beating out every other professional music group for the honor. The Deseret News even listed them above Green Day and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra in their “Top Ten Concerts of 2009”! They've caught the attention of many of today's top artists as well. Since its inception the band has performed with over two hundred guest artists including Grammy-winners Gordon Goodwin, Joe Lovano, Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Jeff Coffin, Nicholas Payton, Christian McBride, Eric Marienthal, Dave Weckl, Ernie Watts, Peter Erskine, and Dave Samuels. They have also performed with members of many of the most recognized bands in recent history – Dave Matthews Band, the Rolling Stones, Tower of Power, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and AC/DC, to name just a few. The band is currently a featured artist on Sirius XM’s “Real Jazz” Channel. |
